Don Metzler is a nature and science photographer, attempting to capture the wonderful imagery he sees with his camera. He has photographed in 22 states, Canada, Mexico, Belize, Costa Rica and England, with many more trips in the works.
His interest in photography started at a very young age when his grandfather provided him with an Argus 75 camera. This and his fascination for technology and tinkering led him to create a pinhole camera to see how light and photography worked. He dabbled with taking photos at holidays and family trips and honed his skills by taking photos of nature, exotic cars and aircraft.
In 1998 he moved to a Canon EOS film camera, and in 2004 switched from film to digital format. The move to digital came when his older sons were playing high school lacrosse, and his youngest playing baseball, and he spent hours at games capturing the action. When he began sharing photos with others, they were impressed with the results which encouraged his efforts. In 2009 he had photos published in the Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Magazine.
Software engineer by day job, he has assisted in developing various photo software applications, which led to further interest in photography. Through his own software company, Barefoot Productions, Inc. he is creating additional utility software for photographers as well as various mobile application software titles.
Don grew up in a western suburb of Chicago, and after college in Illinois and Wisconsin, spent a couple of years living in the city, with an apartment overlooking Lake Michigan. He had a fascination for the architecture and buildings of Chicago. In 1990, he headed West to Colorado and has been there ever since. With a great appreciation for the natural wonder of the mountains, he has many subjects for his photography. He believes any day spent outside is a good day.
Don currently resides in Louisville, Colorado with hs is wife, Susan. When he inot behind the camera you may find him skiing, biking, hiking, traveling, working on his Jeep or brewing beer. equipment:
